My soul is full of longing for the secrets of the sea, and the heart of the great ocean sends a thrilling pulse through me. Henry Wadsworth Longfellow We were finally able to leave Bell Island and head just a few miles north to Warderick Wells. It was a short day and we were able to pick up a mooring ball and prepare our driftwood for BooBoo Hill. The next day we explored the the area in Shelby and beached her for the short hike up the hill to place our name on Boo Boo Hill. The surrounding views were spectacular as you can see both sides from the cliffs at Boo Boo Hill. According to Exuma Online, Boo Boo Hill located at Warderick Wells in the Exumas Land and Sea Park has its own legend. The name is said to have come form the haunted souls of a ship that went missing on the surrounding reefs. During a stormy night all passengers on board were believed to be lost. Some say the ship sank with all on board, but others believe the bodies are buried under the hill. On moonlit nights it is said one can hear the spirits singing in the howling wind. It has become a tradition for visitors to leave a piece of driftwood with the name of their ship. It is viewed as an offering to the God Neptune and the other sea gods for good sailing and safe passage. We left our driftwood or multiple driftwoods on Boo Boo Hill and we are praying for a safe passage back to the United States. We stopped one more time to just take in the view from the top of the hill as it is just break taking and we get a good peek a Journey in the stunning clear blue waters of the Exumas. We were told that Warderick wells is special and it did not disappoint. Back at the boat we prepared to snorkel the small reef behind our boat. We saw some beautiful fish and coral but when back on board we noticed some rays in the water. Our first Eagle Rays. We jumped back in and watched them circle our boat a few times before swimming off along the sandbar. Then we noticed Mr. Turtle our for some dinner in the seagrass. A short two nights here but it is time to keep moving while the weather is good. We want to stop and explore the mangroves a Shroud Cay before anchoring at Highborne. That is our next move to the see the turtles at Shroud Cay.
